General Meeting of Members

Corrimal RSL
Present:

Meeting commenced at: 6.25 pm with welcome by President, Peter Leiner.
1. Introduction of Members
All present provided a “10 seconds” introduction of themselves and their business activities.
2. President’s report
Provided an overview of major activities including the success of Spring into Corrimal Ball.
Thanked previous and current committee members for their contribution throughout the year.
Reported that Council has responded to Chamber request for appropriate signage at Memorial Park
3. Treasurer’s Report
Financial – bank balance as at 30 November $ 8,508. Cash in since 1/7/07 is $13,037 and cash out $8,831 for a cash surplus of $4,206.
It was Resolved that the Treasurer’s Report be adopted. Moved: Dick Bradley; Seconded: Helen Gerards
4. Membership Report
Membership – 47 financial members. 70 recorded of which 23 are non-financial .
It was Resolved that the Assistant Secretary/Membership Officer undertake direct contact with non-financial members with a view to clarifying their position and with removal from the membership list of those definitely not renewing. Moved: Bruce Anderson; Seconded: Frazer Davey
5. Secretary’s Report
Minutes of general meeting held 30 October 2007 were circulated.
It was Resolved to circulate general meeting minutes in hard copy, as well as via email with request for members to indicate if they wish to prefer to continue to receive by mail only. Placement on the website will continue with a hyperlink included in email communications. Moved: Ian Walton; Seconded: Helen Gerards
7. Webmaster’s Report
Report provided of ongoing improvements to the website and plans underway to gain independent input from consultant and chamber member, Wendy Fogarty of I&IBS.
8. Media Report
Welcome was extended to Simon Forbes of the Northern Leader. President indicated that Simon would become the liaison point for media communications in the future and that Newspaper group would shortly become a member of the chamber.
It was noted that responsibility within committee for marketing aspects has been assumed by Bruce Anderson.
9. Corrimal Uniting Church Men’s Shed
Brian Gillett and John Burnard made a brief presentation on plans for the establishment of a Corrimal Men’s Shed. The purpose is to involve older men in meaningful activities and to make them feel wanted in society. A shed in Russell Street has been made available and repairs and maintenance are being carried out. It is hoped to open the shed for at least one day per week later in February following on from a public meeting to gain increased support. The predominate need currently is to obtain appropriate equipment such as lathes and tools etc. Brian can be contacted on Tel: 4284 5298
President spoke of the chamber’s strategy to provide support and encouragement with a request to the business community to match contributions on a $ for $ basis. Presentation of a cheque for $300 was made on behalf of the chamber and this was gratefully accepted by those representatives present.
9. Workshop – Revitalisation Strategy for Corrimal Commercial Centre
Secretary outlined background including Council minutes relative to the Stockland proposal to acquire public land at Short Street and the input material to the public workshop held 31 October 2007.
The purpose of the chamber workshop being to provide it’s own vision of Corrimal twenty years into the future as an input/contribution towards the revitalisation study being undertaken by Council and the Project Team.
Aerial maps were circulated as well as a draft paper, a copy of which is attached hereto. Members discussed concepts and ideas. There was general consensus of the approach adopted in the draft. Members who intend to make further comments/contribution agreed to supply in writing within the next week.
