A Message from our President

Our major focus points for the Chamber in 2008 were:

Branding

The chamber recognises that in an ever changing business environment there is a critical need to refresh image building strategies. Adoption of a distinctive and memorable logo linked with appropriate images, design and positioning statement is critical to any awareness and promotional program. A significant effort is underway to address the chambers branding. This will include a fine-tuning of the highly recognised Steam Engine logo, a major upgrade of the website and a number of media related initiatives designed to raise the profile of the chamber and its membership.

Spring into Corrimal

The chamber is highly cognisant of the strategic importance of this major one day festival across a broad range of economic indicators including enhanced trade and commerce for retailers and stallholders as well as the boost it provides to local tourism and the associated social and community benefits enjoyed by people of all ages. The chamber's proud tradition of underpinning the organisation of this major event in conjunction with its co-ordination arrangements with Corrimal Apex will continue as a major part of the chamber's platform of events.

Revitalisation Strategy

The chamber is proactive in it's support of Council's strategy to develop appropriate medium to long term urban and infrastructure design plans for the Corrimal District Centre. Issues such as civic improvement, retail and commercial rejuvenation, entertainment and employment growth opportunities for youth, community and social care needs, medical and health servicing and support for the ageing (just to name a few) combined with the infrastructure required to support business, social and urban living improvement standards consistent with growth plans are all matters that will directly affect our member's commercial interests both now and into the future. We consider it vitally important that the chamber be actively involved in leading and encouraging community and stakeholder consulation and debate on this study and its outcomes.

The driving force behind our decision making is to ensure we apply the test

"what value will it bring to our members' businesses".

On behalf of the Committee, we look forward to the active participation of our members in the ongoing affairs of the Chamber and will welcome your ideas, suggestions and strategies that will progress the overall interests of the Chamber and the general economy of the local business community.

We will soon be announcing our plan for 2009 and look forward to your direct involvement in that process.

Yours in Business,

President
